The Evolution of officenewswire

I’ve always loved officeinsight magazine, which is one of the reasons I joined the publication. Its focus on our industry and design has been unwavering because Bob Beck and before him, Brad Powell, made it so. Their vision and love of design continues to guide story decisions I make today.

As an old-school daily newspaper guy, I love breaking news as well. I love a good scoop and beating the competition really gets me going. Being timely and on point with our stories is critical at officeinsight, but breaking industry news hasn’t been a focus. I felt that deeply when Steelcase decided to leave THE MART for Fulton Market. It was a big story, but as a design publication, it really didn’t fit into our model.

So we set out to change that. The first step was to redesign our aging officeinsight website, which was deftly handled by our technology partner Axiom and Brian Chiou with a lot of help from Susan Avery, our copy editor, who is also in charge of posting stories to officenewswire.

We are not a breaking news publication, but why can’t we better leverage officenewswire as a spot for hot industry news?

If you are in public relations in this industry, you’ve probably seen your news in officenewswire. It is the place to go for new product introductions, personnel changes, industry events and other news briefs. But I’ve never felt like we’ve used it to its full potential. officenewswire is the answer to my desire to keep breaking industry news.

Over the last several weeks, you may have seen a few breaking news stories pop up there. We recently posted stories about Flokk announcing its strategic expansion into the North American market and another piece on Room & Board and Gensler launching their first product collaboration. We posted both of those stories immediately on officenewswire as soon as they came into our newsroom and followed the stories up with social media postings to help you find the complete articles. Those two stories are the most-read on our website in terms of views so far this year, which means you are interested in breaking news as well.

We are going to continue to post breaking news to officenewswire and hope to turn it into the must-see industry hub for breaking stories. If a story breaks, we want you to know you will find details at officenewswire, which sits just below and to the right of our moving carousel of feature stories at the top of the homepage. We are also exploring ways to deliver that breaking news to you in an even more efficient way.

In the meantime, if you are with a manufacturer, dealer or rep group and you have a hot news story, make sure to send it to pressrelease@officeinsight.com or directly to me at rob@officeinsight.com. Part of my job is to act as a gatekeeper. I don’t want to overwhelm our readers with items that really aren’t breaking news, which means some stories will make the cut and others won’t.

With officeinsight magazine as your guide to the latest in design projects, products and thinking and officenewswire as your source for breaking news, we’ve got you covered.
