Make INDEAL Your Chicago Design Week Home Base

NeoCon, for all its connections, new products and fun, can be absolutely punishing on the body. You’re logging miles in dress shoes, hauling bags of literature and swag, squeezing into packed elevators, and trying to hold a coherent conversation about ergonomics while your feet scream at you. By Wednesday afternoon, even the most seasoned trade show veteran is running on fumes and lukewarm coffee.
That’s why I want to tell you about two showrooms in THE MART that should be on every single itinerary this year, whether you’re here for NeoCon, Fulton Market Design Days, or both. They belong to INDEAL and they might just save your sanity (and feet) at the show.
Head to Suite 1086 on the 10th floor and you’ll find the INDEAL Connection Hub, a sprawling 8,950-square-foot lounge that is a sea of civility among the 50,0000 people who pack THE MART. It is the rare trade show space that understands that human beings need to occasionally sit down, set their bags somewhere safe, and drink a decent cup of coffee.
The complimentary bag check and lockers alone make this place worth knowing about. If you’ve ever navigated THE MART mid-afternoon with a tote bag on each shoulder and a roller behind you, you understand the liberation that comes with dropping your gear and walking free for a few hours. The Connection Hub gives you that.
There’s also a coffee and espresso bar Monday and Tuesday mornings, an ice cream bar Monday afternoon, and massage chairs. Beyond the creature comforts, the Hub is doing real work. It’s a curated showcase of INDEAL Brand Partners, with names like Berco Designs and RightAngle on display in an environment that’s genuinely welcoming rather than transactional. You’re not being pitched to. You’re being invited in.
The Connection Hub is exactly the kind of place where conversations happen organically, where a rep you’ve been trying to track down all day wanders in for coffee and you finally get five real minutes together. Those serendipitous moments are increasingly rare during a show of this size.
One floor up, in Suite 1144, INDEAL is making a focused, compelling argument for why the education market deserves serious attention from the contract furniture community. The Education Pavilion by INDEAL is dedicated entirely to innovative learning spaces, and it brings together education-focused manufacturers, including MooreCo and Tenjam, to show what’s actually possible when designers and furniture makers think hard about how people learn today.
The education segment is one of the most dynamic and underappreciated corners of the contract market right now. Schools and universities are fundamentally rethinking how classrooms function, moving away from the rows-of-desks model toward flexible, collaborative environments that can shift to meet different pedagogical needs throughout the day. The products showing up in spaces like this Pavilion are the tangible result of that rethinking.
If education is part of your practice or your portfolio, this stop is non-negotiable. And even if it isn’t, I’d argue you should walk through anyway. The ideas and solutions on display in learning environments have a funny habit of migrating outward into hospitality, into corporate interiors and into healthcare. The innovation happening in education furniture right now is genuinely worth paying attention to.
officeinsight magazine is so committed to the education sector that it is launching learninginsight magazine on July 22. Make sure to sign up for a free subscription while you are at the Education Pavilion and you might win an iPad.
Do yourself a favor and build INDEAL’s two showrooms into your plan before the week starts as actual anchors to your schedule, not afterthoughts.
Use the Connection Hub as your base of operations. Drop your bags. Drink some coffee. Let the massage chairs do what they were built to do. Talk to people in a room that was designed for actual human interaction. Then ride one floor up and spend real time with the Education Pavilion on 11.
After 25-plus years of covering this industry and walking this building every June, I can tell you that the shows inside the show, the carefully curated spaces where someone has thought hard about what attendees actually need, are often where the best moments happen. INDEAL has built two of them this year so don’t miss them.
