Breakrooms and Cafés

There has been a lot of focus on wellness and mental health in the post pandemic workplace, and the way that we take respite from work while at work is a topical conversation. A space that supports both disengagement while also cultivating office culture, is what many designers and decision makers are looking to create. Breakrooms and cafes are not just central to the new workplace, but essential.

Capital One Banking Café

In this design by Interior Architect (IA), Capital One in Chicago receives a new café, called the Banking Café. Although this is uniquely self contained, the idea of a café and what it can provide is universal.

eBay Amenities Building

When eBay wanted to focus on growing their culture and their brand, they hired Gensler to create a new design for their cafeteria. Calling it “the Kitchen”, the new cafeteria was styled after food truck interfaces, and in this way incorporated play into their communal space. By expanding the space in a new design, there was room to accommodate training activities, meetings and dining experiences that grow conversation and connections.
